International Ranger Day in the Zurich Wilderness Park

Rangers from all over Switzerland will meet on July 30 to celebrate International Ranger Day in Sihlwald. Join our forest experts on this day in the natural forest and learn more about the work of the Swiss Rangers and about rangers in Ecuador at information stands. An exciting film and a craft table round off the program.

Round two in the fight against neophytes
19. June 2017
Recently, employees of the Zurich Wilderness Park Foundation cleared the area around the old Sihlbrugg railroad station of invasive neophytes for the second time. The campaign was carried out together with numerous volunteers and various partners. The area infested by problem plants has not increased in size compared to the previous year - which can be seen as a success.

"CityNature Adventure" and "Open Day of the Nature Centers"
in the Zurich Wilderness Park

This year, the Zurich Wilderness Park is taking part in the "Abenteuer StadtNatur" festival for the second time. Brief information on red deer, wolves and brown bears will provide exciting moments on Sunday, May 21 in Langenberg. At the same time, we will be celebrating the "Open Day of the Swiss Nature Centres" with a varied program at the visitor center in Sihlwald.

Safety interventions implemented close to nature

On April 4, the Zurich Wilderness Park Foundation trimmed dry trees and branches along the Sihl riverside path. This safety intervention was carried out as close to nature as possible.

A train carriage full of wild animals and pristine nature

From Monday, April 3, even the journey to Zurich Wilderness Park will be an unforgettable experience: Zürcher Kantonalbank, Sihltal Zürich Uetliberg Bahn SZU and the Zurich Wilderness Park Foundation have joined forces to transform a train carriage into a pristine forest full of wild animals.

Accessible wild boar enclosure in Langenberg open again

The walk-in wild boar enclosure in Langenberg was closed for a year and a half, but since last week the unique experience with native wild animals has been open to visitors again. All guests are requested to adhere to the rules of conduct.

Opening day of the visitor center dedicated to Switzerland's smallest carnivores

The new season of the Zurich Wilderness Park begins at the visitor center in Sihlwald on Sunday, 26 March, with a small celebration. Celebrate with us the opening of the new special exhibition "Weasels & stoats, small animals - big hunters" with guided tours, storytellers, aperitifs and an exciting search for the stoat called Fridolin.

A globally rare mushroom grows in the Sihlwald forest

Antrodiella citrinella is also described as a "primeval forest indicator", because the bright yellow fungus only grows where nature is allowed to be pristine, where dead wood is left lying around. In the Sihlwald, it finds the latter in many places.

More space for otters
by not keeping beavers
08. March 2017
Since the end of 2016, the four otters in the Zurich Wilderness Park have been allowed to use the beavers' enclosure in addition to their own. The animals are having a great time in their new territory. Due to the positive experiences, the management of the Zurich Wilderness Park has decided to stop keeping beavers in future. The last beaver died of meningitis in the summer of 2016.
