The Federal Office for the Environment has awarded Sihlwald and thus the Zurich Wilderness Park Foundation and its sponsors the "Nature Discovery Park - Park of National Importance" label for a further ten years.

We celebrate the oldest zoo in Switzerland

At 150 years old, Zurich Langenberg Wildlife Park is the oldest animal park in Switzerland. To celebrate its milestone birthday, a big party full of attractions for the whole family will be held on Sunday, May 19. The program includes guided tours and information about the wild animals, children's concerts with Linard Bardill, a bird of prey show, climbing wall, face painting and unique animal tattoos. Admission and activities are free.

At 150 years old, Zurich Langenberg Wildlife Park is the oldest zoo in Switzerland. Yet the zoo in Langnau am Albis is extremely modern. The best example is the new information boards for each animal species: colorful, informative and somewhat playful.

At 150 years old, the Zurich Langenberg Wilderness Park is the oldest zoo in Switzerland. It was founded in 1869 by Carl Anton Ludwig von Orelli as a "wild garden". The Pro Sihltal association is dedicating its recently published annual issue entirely to the near-natural animal park in Langnau am Albis.

Cotton candy in the Sihlwald

Anyone walking through the Sihlwald forest on cold, snowless and windless winter days will occasionally come across strange, cotton candy-like formations on the forest floor. So-called hair ice forms on damp dead wood under certain conditions. This phenomenon is a regular occurrence in the Sihlwald natural forest in winter.

Elks in Langenberg love Christmas trees

Moose are food specialists. In summer they eat the foliage of willow, ash, hazelnut and maple, in winter they prefer needles. The unsold Christmas trees are on the menu at the Zurich Langenberg Wilderness Park from Christmas onwards.

Przewalski mares welcome new stallion

The new breeding stallion at the Zurich Langenberg Wilderness Park was allowed to join his mares last week - and was warmly welcomed by them. The Przewalski's horses at Langenberg are part of the European conservation breeding program. The aim is to be able to release the stallion's future offspring into the wild.

Winter harmony in the Sihlwald

After the warm and sunny days of autumn, the visitor center of the Zurich Wilderness Park in Sihlwald is already ringing in the winter on Sunday, October 28. Enjoy hot chestnuts, handicraft fun and the award ceremony for Pro Natura Switzerland's "Wild animals on the move" photo competition at the end of the season. Admission to the Nature Museum is free on this day.
