Przewalski mares welcome new stallion

Media release
The new breeding stallion at the Zurich Langenberg Wilderness Park was allowed to join his mares last week - and was warmly welcomed by them. The Przewalski's horses at Langenberg are part of the European conservation breeding program. The aim is to be able to release the stallion's future offspring into the wild.

On October 23, the time had come: after a four-week quarantine, the new breeding stallion was allowed to graze his mares and was thus integrated into the breeding group of the Zurich Langenberg Wilderness Park. The 5-year-old stallion was born in the Springe bison enclosure and came to Langenberg after a three-year stay in the Augsburg city forest. In Langenberg, he is to provide offspring as part of the European conservation breeding program.

The Zurich Wilderness Park has been involved in the European Conservation Breeding Program since it began keeping wild horses. Since 1996, Przewalski's horses from the Langenberg in the Gobi B desert in Mongolia have been regularly released into the wild. The tradition of reintroductions is to be continued with the new breeding stallion.
