Three lynxes have arrived safely in Germany.
Wildnispark Zurich has been involved in lynx reintroduction projects in Germany since 2024. Now the cubs born in spring 2025 have been brought to the coordination enclosure in the wild cat village of Hütscheroda
On Wednesday, February 4, the lynx trio born in spring 2025 arrived safe and sound in the wild cat village of Hütscheroda in Germany. There, the two females and the male will spend a few months in a special, so-called coordination enclosure.
In this spacious, near-natural area, which is not accessible to outsiders, lynxes are specifically prepared for life in the wild and their behavior is carefully monitored.
If everything goes according to plan, the male and one of the females will be released into the wild later this year. The second young female will serve as a reserve for the time being. If it cannot be released into the wild, it will be given to a zoo that participates in EAZA's European conservation breeding program for the lynx.
Networking isolated lynx populations
In Germany, the lynx is threatened with extinction. Various reintroduction projects are currently underway to strengthen and better connect the populations. Since 2024, three cubs from Wildnispark Zurich have already been released into the wild in Germany: Vreni in the "Lynx Thuringia" project, Verena in the northern Black Forest ("Lynx Baden-Württemberg") and Freya as part of "ReLynx Saxony" in the western Ore Mountains.
With any luck, the breeding female at Wildlifepark Langenberg will give birth again in spring. Further information and donation options
