Deadwood in the Sihlwald

Wild nature requires attention

Heavy snowfall, continuous rain and winter storms bring a lot of dynamism to the forest. Fallen trees block the path and even in quiet times, dry branches can break off from time to time.

The Sihlwald has been allowed to revert to a wilderness for almost 25 years. You can now clearly see and feel this. Weakened or dead trees are allowed to stand or remain standing. This is a benefit for nature: rare species of fungi, plants and animals find a habitat here thanks to the large amount of dead wood.

For visitors, however, this means that they have to be a little more careful when walking in the Sihlwald. Gusts of wind and heavy snow can break branches or even bring down entire trees. The consequences of continuous rain should not be underestimated either: Soaked ground offers less grip and on steep slopes they can start to slide.

Great effort for the ranger team

In recent weeks, the ranger team has been constantly busy clearing and checking paths after windy weather conditions. Only then was it possible to walk on them again - at your own risk. The snow at the beginning of December, as beautiful as the forest looked in its winter dress, also posed some dangers.

Due to the death of spruce and ash trees in recent years, there are currently a particularly large number of dry trees in the Sihlwald.

So be careful if you decide to take a walk through the nature discovery park.
