The service agreement between the Zurich Wilderness Park Foundation and its sponsors - the City of Zurich, the twelve municipalities of the district of Horgen, the Canton of Zurich and Pro Natura Zurich - has been finalized for the next three years. This agreement regulates the services to be provided by the foundation and quantifies the contributions of the individual sponsors to the foundation. For the next three years, the agreement provides for an increase in contributions of around 15 percent. This is because higher operating funds are required to ensure the sustainability of the services and offers provided by the nature discovery park and the zoo.

During the consultation process for the service agreement, the sponsors consistently expressed a high level of appreciation for the Zurich Wilderness Park and its services. It is recognized that the foundation makes an important contribution in the areas of environmental education and research and is important for the development of the region's landscape and tourism. On the other hand, there was mixed feedback regarding the increase in contributions. The City of Zurich, the Canton of Zurich and three municipalities - including two local municipalities - approved the increase without reservation and included it in their budgets for 2017. The other municipalities rejected the increase. The additional amount is not included in their budgets.

The Founders' Assembly, the highest body and the political and strategic management of the Zurich Wilderness Park Foundation, has decided to treat the coming year as a transitional year with regard to contributions to the Foundation. The aim is to continue negotiations with the municipalities and to ensure that the full contribution is paid by all municipalities in 2018.
