We are committed to the conservation of European bison in the wild
The Wildnis magazine is here!
Our "Wildnis" magazine is now available again at Langenberg Wildlife Park and the Sihlwald Nature Discovery Park Visitor Center.
Our cover story is dedicated to the European bison. A herd of bison has been living in the canton of Solothurn since the end of 2022. They are currently still living in an enclosure covering around one square kilometer. However, if everything goes according to plan, the fence will be removed in 2027 and the animals' run will be extended to 10 square kilometers. They will be monitored by transmitters and in 2032, the federal government and the canton will evaluate whether bisons should be allowed to live freely in Switzerland again. The animals in this pilot project are on loan from the Wildnispark Zurich Foundation, which is a partner in the "Wisent Thal" project.
The magazine also focuses on spruce. A historic event is currently taking place in the Sihlwald forest. The Norway spruce trees are dying off, a process known as spruce succession. One of the reasons for the dieback is global warming.
We would be delighted if the "Wildnis" inspires you and encourages you to visit the Wildnispark Zurich. The magazine also contains our event program and exciting excursion tips.
