After the heavy thunderstorms there is a lot of loose dead wood and fallen trees can block paths. Please be careful and do not rest under scrawny trees.

Due to the ongoing heat wave and drought, there is a considerable risk of forest fires in the canton of Zurich (level 3 out of 5). We kindly ask you not to light fires in the Sihlwald. You may use the marked fireplaces in the Langenberg Wildlife Park. Please always extinguish the fire completely.

The 2025 annual report is here!

Review of a successful year

The Wildnispark Zurich Foundation can look back on a successful year. The "25 years of the wild Sihlwald" anniversary brought a lot of attention to the only park of national importance in the canton of Zurich. Other highlights included the release of a lynx into the wild in Germany, the reintroduction of a Przewalski's stallion in Kazakhstan and the reintroduction of stone crayfish in the Sihlwald. The foundation also made an important contribution to the promotion of biodiversity in the Sihl Valley with ecological enhancement measures.

Last year, the Wildnispark Zurich Foundation had many reasons to celebrate. For example, the "25 years of wild Sihlwald" anniversary. For a quarter of a century, the Sihlwald has been allowed to transform itself back into a wilderness. The former commercial forest is now the largest natural forest reserve on the Central Plateau and a park of national importance - a milestone in the history of wilderness in Switzerland.

Lynx, Przewalski's stallion and stone crayfish released into the wild

With the reintroduction of a female lynx in Germany, a Przewalski's stallion in Kazakhstan and the reintroduction of stone crayfish in the Sihlwald forest, the Foundation was once again able to achieve important successes for species conservation.

New refuges for endangered species

"Promoting biodiversity and bringing it closer to people is one of our foundation's goals," says Karin Hindenlang Clerc, Managing Director of the Wildnispark Zurich Foundation. "That's why we implemented several large-scale enhancement projects in the perimeter of the Park last year. For example, in the bison enclosure at Langenberg Wildlife Parkand at the Sihlbrugg Station hamlet."

Stable visitor numbers

The Wildnispark Zurich remains a popular excursion destination: despite restrictions on rail and road traffic due to construction work, visitor numbers rose slightly to a total of 634,000.
