Annual Report of the Wildnispark Zurich Foundation
The Wildnispark Zurich Foundation's retrospective of 2024 is encouraging: with the release of two lynxes into the wild in Germany and the reintroduction of stone crayfish in the Sihlwald forest, Wildnispark Zurich was able to achieve important successes for species conservation. The foundation is well established in the region and can continue to rely on the support of its sponsors for the next four years.
The Wildnispark Zürich is and remains a popular excursion destination: despite the slightly rainy summer weather, the number of visitors to the Sihlwald and the Wildlife Park Langenberg remained at the previous year's level with 631,000 visits.
Lynx and stone crayfish released into the wild
Species conservation plays an important role at Wildnispark Zurich: there were two special highlights in 2024. In autumn, two female lynxes born at Langenberg Wildlife Park were released into the wild in Germany to strengthen the endangered lynx population there. In addition, a multi-year reintroduction project for stone crayfish was launched in the Sihlwald. This critically endangered native crayfish species is to be given a well-protected habitat in the Sihlwald. The first forty animals have already been released, with more to follow.
Regionally anchored
The Wilnispark Zurich Foundation is tasked by its supporting organizations with raising public awareness of nature and wilderness, promoting environmental education and facilitating nature experiences. In 2024, the corresponding service agreement with the city of Zurich, the municipalities of the district of Horgen, the canton of Zurich and Pro Natura Zurich was renewed for a further four years. There is also an agreement with the federal government for the nationally recognized Sihlwald Nature Discovery Park, which has also been updated. The agreements underline the importance of the services provided by the Wilnispark Zurich Foundation for the common good and regional location marketing.
