«Chräbs im Chräbsächerli»

The Förderverein of the Wildnispark Zurich are bringing the crayfish back to the Sihlwald.

Crayfish play an important role in the water ecosystem as «nature's cleaning agents» and are to be reintroduced to the Sihlwald.

What it's about

Crayfish once populated the streams of the Sihlwald, but today they are no longer found there. Functioning ecosystems are crucial for biodiversity and adaptation to climate change. Crayfish are part of this. Studies have now shown that some streams in the Sihlwald offer optimal living conditions for crayfish.

The project

Wildnispark Zurich is planning to reintroduce crayfish to the Sihlwald in collaboration with «Lebensgemeinschaft Wasser Schweiz». In addition, interactive exhibition elements are planned in the aquarium on the grounds of the Visitor Centre. These are intended to inform children and adults about the native aquatic inhabitants and raise their awareness of their protection.

The Förderverein Wildnispark Zurich is exclusively supporting this project. Various member events are planned as part of the project.

Small animal commune

Nature paradise in mini format

Who is scampering between the stones? Who lives in the pile of branches? The Förderverein Wildnispark Zurich is committed to this project.

What it's about

On the grounds of the visitor centre in Sihlwald, visitors will find several experience stations on the topic of biodiversity under the motto «small animal commune». In a confined space, visitors can experience what is good for nature and how the diverse interplay between native plants and animals works.

The project

The various exhibition elements are getting old and need to be renewed. In addition, the Wildnispark Zurich Foundation would like to take the opportunity to integrate more habitats into the concept. At the experience stations, the focus will be more on suggestions on how visitors can transform their own garden or balcony into a small nature paradise with simple tips: small changes with a big effect for biodiversity.
