Wilderness day in the Sihlwald

An exciting event for the whole family: a wilderness day will be held in Sihlwald on September 24. The focus is on the reconquest of the forests by the red deer and the realm of mushrooms.

The Sihlwald forest provides the ideal backdrop for the wilderness day: as a nature discovery park with a high proportion of dead wood, it provides a habitat for numerous species of fungi. Among them are rare species such as the lemon yellow tramete. The Sihlwald is also home to the red deer. Ongoing monitoring documents how the population is developing.

The red deer was extinct in Switzerland 150 years ago, but it is slowly returning to our forests. On Wildlife Day in the Sihlwald, wildlife researcher Martina Reifler-Bächtiger from the ZHAW will show how this recapture is taking place. It promises to be an exciting lecture in which she will present the latest findings on red deer in the Central Plateau.

The wilderness day offers further exciting insights into nature at various stands: the junior rangers and wilderness messengers provide information about the wonderful world of mushrooms and the red deer as king of the forest. Pro Natura Zurich presents the brown bear.

The Friends of the Zurich Wilderness Park and Zürcher Kantonalbank will be on site with games of skill. There is even gold to be won at the ZKB.

Another plus: admission to the Nature Museum is free on Wilderness Day. It shows the diversity and history of the Sihlwald forest as well as the current photo exhibition "Wilderness fascinates". Children can look forward to a search for clues in the area, where they have to solve puzzles on the subject of mushrooms.

The wilderness day will take place on Sunday, September 24 from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm. The stands are located on the grounds of the visitor center near Sihlwald train station.
