After the heavy thunderstorms there is a lot of loose dead wood and fallen trees can block paths. Please be careful and do not rest under scrawny trees.

Due to the ongoing heat wave and drought, there is a considerable risk of forest fires in the canton of Zurich (level 3 out of 5). We kindly ask you not to light fires in the Sihlwald. You may use the marked fireplaces in the Langenberg Wildlife Park. Please always extinguish the fire completely.

Garden dormouse at Langenberg Wildlife Park

New Wildife Park residents

Instead of dormice, garden dormice will definitely be kept in the Wildnispark Zurich.

Since August 2025, two garden dormice have been living in the Müsli-Hüsli at Langenberg Wildlife Park. After the three edible dormice that previously lived in the enclosure died during last year's hibernation due to their advanced age, the Langenberg Wildlife Park initially took over two garden dormice from the Goldau Zoo on a temporary basis.

However, it has now been decided to keep garden dormice permanently instead of edible dormice at Wildnispark Zurich. In contrast to the edible dormice, there are better transfer and adoption options for garden dormice with other zoos to prevent inbreeding. In addition, the garden dormouse is rarer in Switzerland than the edible dormouse and is even highly endangered in Central and Eastern Europe.
