After the heavy thunderstorms there is a lot of loose dead wood and fallen trees can block paths. Please be careful and do not rest under scrawny trees.

Due to the ongoing heat wave and drought, there is a considerable risk of forest fires in the canton of Zurich (level 3 out of 5). We kindly ask you not to light fires in the Sihlwald. You may use the marked fireplaces in the Langenberg Wildlife Park. Please always extinguish the fire completely.

Prehistoric Trail

A journey through time

The journey into prehistoric times leads to traces of our ancestors in the Bone Forest. Try to identify the remains of the hunts. In the Fire Cave, wall paintings show the deep connection that Stone Age people had with the animal world.

Travel back to prehistoric times on this circular trail in the western part of Langenberg Wildlife Park. The journey begins at the fox barn, where you can observe the foxes in a farm environment. Foxes find niches to live in everywhere and also like to hide near humans. From the fox barn, the circular trail leads steeply uphill to the Fire Cave. In the Fire Cave, wall paintings show the deep connection that Stone Age people had with the animal world. Then continue on to the traces of our Stone Age ancestors in the Bone Forest. Here, try to identify the remains of the hunters. There are fire pits and seating areas at the Fire Cave and the Bone Forest. From there, you can observe bison and wild horses – let your mind take you back to a Stone Age hunting scene. This is followed by a descent through the forest, past the fallow deer enclosure and back to the fox barn.
